Tata Power successfully commissions its Solar Project in Gujarat

Tata Power, India’s largest private power company, which is developing a 25 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power project under Gujarat’s Solar Power Policy 2009, through its subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, announced the successful commissioning of its project on 25th January 2012.

Speaking on the commissioning, Mr. Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Power, said, "We are delighted to announce the commissioning of one of the largest solar projects in the country. We would like to thank the Government of Gujarat and all our stakeholders for the support extended for setting up this solar power project at Mithapur."

Leader of opposition in Gujarat assembly and Congress leader Shri Shaktisinh Gohil was today taken to Gandhinagar Civil hospital after complain of chest pain.
Gohil who lives in Gandhinagar complained chest pain just before noon today. He was immediately taken to Gandhinagar civil hospital.
The doctors told that Gohil had initial symptoms of heart attack.
“It’s golden period at present, and possible heart attack can be treated at this time,” the doctors added.
Gohil, accompanied by senior doctors was later taken to Ahmedabad’s SAL hospital for in VIP ambulance.
A doctors team led by Dr. Tejas Patel performed angioplasty on Gohil.
According to SAL hospital statement Gohil suffered severe heart attack and one of his five artery was 100% block. He has been taken to Intensive Care Unit after operated for angioplasty. Even as questions are being raised about the credibility of reports on spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba’s health, the question, ‘Who after Baba?’ is being seen as the raison d’etre for all the mystery and secrecy over Baba’s real condition.
A five-member team of Andhra Pradesh government, headed by principal secretary, health department, BV Ramesh, has been constituted to work out a smooth transfer of reins of the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Trust in the event of 85-year-old godman’s demise.
According to sources, “It is this tussle for succession that is driving the government and the trustees to keep Baba out of the public glare. The trust has huge properties at Puttaparthi in Ananthapur district, Andhra Pradesh, and in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai. It also has property in several countries, including USA, and property alone is estimated to be worth over Rs 40,000 crore. The trust is running numerous schools, colleges and two super-specialty hospitals, apart from implementing drinking water schemes in several places, including Ananthapur.”
Baba’s nephew RJ Ratnakara Raju, one of the trustees, is being touted as the front runner to head the trust. But the issue is not simple, as there is now debate on whether the new head, in the event of Baba’s demise, should be chosen in a democratic manner or be one from Baba’s family.
Retired IAS officer Chakravarthi reportedly enjoys the confidence of many members, and could head the trust. Meanwhile, Puttaparthi is agog with reports of the Andhra Pradesh government trying to take over the trust, to manage the institutions of the Baba.
The five-member team of the AP government, which is camping in Puttaparthi, is in constant touch with trustees and members of Baba’s family. It has already started examining the flow of donations for the trust and whether funds are being managed properly.
Earlier, devotees heeded a prophecy that Baba would attain his heavenly abode only at the age of 96. Baba’s next reincarnation, according to that prophecy, would occur in Mandya district. Devotees see Baba’s reincarnation as the natural successor to Baba. But for that kind of succession, devotees expect to have to wait at least three decades. Since its inception before a decade ago, one of the primary objective of Budhan Theatre was to prepare a breed of professionals in the field of communication. As theatre, journalism and media studies are the important aspect to prepare the students in the field of communication, the group has started a six months certificate course.
The school
The school is located in the Chharanagar library in Ahmedabad and currently the lectures has already in progress. The school is currently run by Budhan Theatre group, a part of the umbrella organisations of Bhasha Research and Publication Centre in Vadodara.
The students
There are currently 30 students who comes for regular lectures in the school. All of them are either the residents of Chharanagar and/or from the nearby localities.
The Director
Currently, the post of director is vacant and is awaited for the right candidate from the community.
The Honorary director
Roxy Gagdekar, a full time journalist working in Ahmedabad and a member of Budhan Theatre is currently the honorary director of the school. He teaches the basics of journalism and the skills of reporting to the students.
The faculty
Other members of Budhan Theatre are teaching the basics of theatre and other aspects of communication to the students.

Spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba passes away

Spritual leader Sathya Sai Baba passed away at 7. 40 am on Sunday of cardiac and respiratory failure after a prolonged illness. He was 85.
Sai Baba, who was 86, breathed his last at 7.40 AM at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, its Director A N Safaya said in a bulletin.
"Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is no more with us physically. He left his earthly body on April 24, 2011 at 7:40 AM due to cardio-respiratory failure," it said.
The body will lie in state at Sai Kulwant Hall for two days -- Monday and Tuesday, it said, adding that arrangements will be made for darshan after 6:00 pm today at the Hall.
"We appeal to all not to rush to the hospital, but to remain calm and have Darshan in an orderly manner," it said.
A pall of gloom descended on this town, 450 km from Hyderabad, as the news of Sai Baba's death spread. His family members, four ministers and government officials rushed to the hospital following reports that the Sai Baba's condition had deteriorated further.
There has been a complete shutdown in this town since morning following reports about deterioration in the condition of Sai Baba.
Sai Baba was hospitalised on March 28 following problems related to heart and respiration.

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar turns 38 today, and this might be his sweetest birthday ever. The only jewel missing from Tendulkar’s glittering crown was the World Cup, and this year that too has been conquered.

Amidst 99 international hundreds that were laced with finance and ferociousness, the sight of tears rolling down an emotional Tendulkar in front of the joyous Wankhede stands out. Who knew the man who has given India countless smiles, could make it cry with joy too.

But, even the phenomenal numbers that Tendulkar has achieved cannot do justice to his contribution to Indian cricket. Tendulkar is beyond numbers.

Batsmen play to score runs, but very few of them can make batting look ridiculously easy. And fewer bat like Tendulkar who has flogged Shoaib Akhtar at his fastest and Shane Warne at his most obtuse, has scored as many runs abroad as in India, dominated on dry and damp, and has been classy in his brutality.

As he grows a year older, the question rises again – how long will he play? As Peter Roebuck once said – “For Tendulkar, scoring runs is the easy part. Stopping will be the difficult one.”

The recent unearthing of transcripts of conversations between Barkha Dutt, group editor of NDTV, and Nira Radia, a powerful PR consultant and lobbyist who represents the Tatas and the Ambanis, has created an uproar over the extent of influence journalists and lobbyists allegedly exercise on engineering governments in our country.

While Dutt and her employer, NDTV, rubbished the allegations, and called the conversations just 'Ethical Gathering Of Information', the conversations between Dutt and Radia, being interpreted by many as the duo functioning as mediators between and the Congress and the DMK in the negotiations for allotment of union cabinet portfolios for the DMK, have certainly been caught in the eye of a storm.

The DMK had been instrumental in bringing the UPA government back to power again in the 2009 general elections. But what followed was a prolonged stalemate during which the DMK allegedly threatened to withdraw its support unless it was given the 3 Cabinet and 4 Minister Of State berths it had been pressing for for a long time.

The conversations are being interpreted by many people as revealing how Barkha Dutt and Nira Radia acted as agents of the involved parties and orchestrated the distribution of portfolios among the DMK members. The Chief Justice has given his clearance on him and he’s happy. He’s really happy with that. I told him the letter’s coming to you… that KK’s letter, you know. NR: So you don’t know what to do with him, you know. I told him just learn to keep quiet and keep his head down. As far as the media is concerned, he can’t resist talking to the media, and then he just says everything, you know. He is saying. The latest rumour is that he and Kanimozhi are having an affair which is actually not true.

NR: His latest thing is that he and Kanimozhi are having an affair.

NR: The latest rumour in Delhi.

NR: He gives away the sign that he probably has a crush on her and she has got zero interest in him. Everybody then puts two and two together and gossips. You have this really weird man and he can’t understand why his wife is going to beat him up.

NR: He’s telling me today, ‘What do I do with all of these people, to all these rumours?’ And I told him, ‘Don’t talk to people about you have this soft corner for Kanimozhi,’ and that ‘You have to protect her.’ And I said to him, ‘You know, you actually blush.’ He said, ‘You can’t make out I am blushing.’ I said, ‘I’m sorry, but look at your eyes.’ Anyway, he can’t hide the fact that he’s got a crush on her. And Kani says to me, ‘God help me Niira, keep me away from this man.’ It is quite funny. On the lighter side of Delhi. But then for the madness that I hate being here. We’ve made a basic offer, if Karunanidhi responds to us and tell this that he would like to respond directly, he would like to talk to Ms. Gandhi. He spoke only to Manmohan Singh. We would be more than happy but we’re not going to chase them now. We’ve told Maran that also they’ve to come back to us and tell us what they think of our offer. And apparently the DMK is getting very bad press in Chennai.

Vir Sanghvi: So, he said we’re going to wait for two days. Let them come back, we are of the line that this is not a Congress DMK problem, this is an internal DMK problem because they can’t get their act together between all his wives and children and nephews and all of that. He is got to get his act together and nominate one person and we would be very happy to deal with him. We are not happy with this Maran who keeps calling up Ghulam Nabi and saying talk to me, talk to me. They are not taking him seriously.

Nira: Very interesting. I’m glad of – you spoke to Ghulam Nabi, is it?

Vir Sanghvi: I spoke to Ahmed.

"This issue is in court. We are not aware of what the SIT has said, so we will not be able to make a detailed comment. But if such an outcome is there then it will be a truth which will vindicate our stand on the matter," leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha and MP from Gujarat Arun Jaitley said.

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said, "BJP has taken the stand to cooperate with law. People may have been conspiring against the BJP, but we believe in law."

The SIT has submitted its report to the apex court on allegations levelled by the wife of a former Congress MP Ahsan Jafri, Zakiathat Modi and his close aides aided and abetted the post-Godhra carnage in which her husband was killed.

A newspaper report claimed that the SIT has said there was no proof of Modi's complicity in the violence that took place after the Godhra incident.

Mukul Rohtagi, counsel for the Gujarat government, said the state government has been maintaining for the last 10 years that Modi had no role to play in the riots.
"The riots were unfortunate but to allege that the CM was engineering them or was negligent... is a falsehood," he said.

CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat said the SIT report was submitted to the apex court in a sealed cover and wanted to know how it was leaked to a newspaper.

The SIT had summoned Modi a few months ago and grilled him for a few hours on the issue.
The court had on April 27, 2009 asked the SIT to inquire into Zakia's complaint.
Zakia had alleged that Modi and 62 others, including his cabinet colleagues, police officials and senior bureaucrats aided and abetted the riots which left over 1,000 people dead. Her husband Ehsan Jaffery was killed along with 69 others by a mob at Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today described Jhagadia as the fastest growing tribal taluka (block) in the country in terms of providing modern infrastructure and quality life during the last decade.

He recalled that Dahej was recently adjudged the only one from India and the 25th fastest growing SEZ in the world.

Talking about the Jhagadias rise from one of the most backward talukas to the most progressive one, he said, the states economic development during the last decade has redefined the word V for Victory into V for Vibrant Gujarat.

Mr. Modi, who was inaugurating the rubber chemicals major Lanxess ion exchange resins manufacturing plant at Jhagadia Industrial Estate, complimented the firm for bringing best water treatment technology to the state. With exposure in 50 countries, it becomes the German firms third plant in the state. Its benefit would be now available in other parts of the country too, he said.

Wednesday was World Aids Day and a boat rally was organised at Nal Sarovar to raise national awareness of HIV and Aids, its perilous impacts on humankind. The campaign launched to educate people about HIV, specifically in the areas of raising awareness and educating the populace about the virus and how it operates.

The district Aids Control Society Ahmedabad in collaboration with Manav Sewa Education Trust-Sanand, TATA NANO Motors, I.C.T.C, and Community Health Centre Sanand organised the rally. What is most significant is that they, too, the Aids affected patients must be allowed to enjoy their human rights to the fullest, which includes the right to proper medical care. Around 50 HIV affected people took part into the rally besides 200 others.

GUVNL AND GIDB BAGGED 3^RDKPMGINFRASTRUCTURE AWARD

Gujarat Governments two organizations- Gujarat Urja Vikash Nigam Ltd.(GUVNL) and Gujarat Industrial Development Board (GIDB) bagged the prestigious 3^rd KPMG Infrastructure Today award-2010 for being most admired state entity in power sector (GUVNL) and most admired state entity in water and urban infrastructure sector (GIDB).

Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi called upon 3000-odd government officials to work with their best in bringing a qualitative change in the fields like education and health and thus making Gunotsav, state governments mission to vitalize administration, a success.

Chief Minister said that government administration spend most of its time in handling files and in meetings, but go out and in people to know their culture, also give motivation. Results, Gujarat has achieved in last decade, is an example of the miraculous success that can be achieved with the pre-planning and total commitment to pro-people programs, he said.

First program of Gunotsav in the field of education has filled the gap of past 30 years. Contribution of each government employee is crucial as their work, if done in completeness can bring turnaround results, he said.

Chief Minister pointed out that drop-out ratio in primary school has been reduced to two percent only with the campaigns like kanya kelavani. This, he said, is something that government mechanism can take proud of.

Initiatives like Gunotsav will take government administration to villages and will link government files with human life, Chief Minister said.

Shri Hasmukh Adhiya, Principal Secretary, Education Department, said that around 3000 officials of class-1 and class-2 cadre are participating in Gunotsav program during December 9 to 11. It is the program in the right line as it has brought good results. Out of 32,000 primary schools in Gujarat, 9,000 have got grading rating, he said.

Secretary to Primary Education Shri R.P.Gupta said that Gunotsav has acted like catalyst and brought both quantitative and qualitative changes in primary education. Gunotsav held during previous year traced poor results among 25-lakh students in primary schools. Rectification programs, then, were carried out which had changed the performance of around 85% of students, he said.

Smt.Vijyalakshmi Joshi, Principal Secretary to Health Department, gave details of School Health Checkup program and said that it will cover more than 1.5-crore children in the state and around 3,03,888 health officials will give their services.

Sabarkantha has witnessed continuous drizzles since Sunday, while in Mehsana, it has not rained much, but the chilly winds have made the life difficult for the residents.

About 150 farmers, mainly potato growers, have submitted a memorandum to Banaskantha district collector R J Patel, claiming to have suffered huge losses because of the unseasonal rains. The district collector has set up committees to assess the individual losses suffered by farmers.

The first India assignment for Nira Radia, who was fascinated byairplanes, was to smoothen the entry of Singapore Airlines to India in 1990s.
That project failed to take off, but it introduced her to two important personalities — then aviation minister Ananth Kumar and Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata group, which was to be Singapore Airlines’ Indian partner.
Never the one to be put down, Radia created ripples in the aviation ministry in 2000 when she applied for a license to start an airline under her own firm with a capitalisation of all of Rs1 lakh. Ananth Kumar was the aviation minister at that time. But it was a controversial project and her application was rejected. Later, Kumar was moved out of the civil aviation ministry.
However, it was her second meeting with Ratan Tata that became her a biggest stepping stone as a businesswoman. Tata was so impressed with her that he appointed her to manage the corporate communications of the Tata group — leading to the birth of Vaishnavi Corporate Communications in 2001. For many years, Vaishnavi’s main client remained the Tata group, so much so that that it was mistaken for being a Tata firm.
Radia, who grew up in Kenya and holds a British passport, transformed her prized catch into a magic wand that opened bigger doors. Soon, she had a client list that comprised 50 big companies. Then, she had the most powerful industrial baron in India, Mukesh Ambani, in her kitty, who was looking for some kind of assistance in media management in 2008-09.
In between, she also allegedly got involved with the issue of new 2Glicenses in 2008, partly because her own client — Tata Teleservices — stood to gain or lose from how the licenses were issued.
Radia was at the peak of her power in 2009-10 — with a mandate tomanage the media and lobbying requirements of the country’s two richest and biggest corporates. Her various firms are estimated to generate annual revenues of anywhere between Rs100 to Rs120 crores, though hard figures are tough to come by.
A decade after she entered the ‘relations’ business, Radia seems to be the most powerful ‘influencer’— counting such luminaries as former TRAI chairman Pradip Baijal, former economic affairs secretary CM Vasudev, former DIPP secretary Ajay Dua and former TRAI member DPS Seth among her associates.

Gujarat government has taken a decision to dispatch important RTO documents to applicants through speed post.
Presently an applicant has to physically come to RTO office to take delivery of important documents like license, permit and registration paper of vehicle.
But from 1st of December, the department will dispatch these documents to applicants through speed post courier at home.
The Transport Department would collect stamped self-addressed covers from applicants/owners of the vehicles while receiving applications. The covers containing the documents would be provided to the Postal Department.
Presently the department receives several reports from the police, that in most criminal cases the addresses given on drivers licences and car registrations are fake, therefore transport department has decided to henceforth have licences and vehicle registrations sent to the homes of applicants by speed post. The new system is expected to tackle the problem of fake addresses. The passport office too introduced the same system, whereby passports are delivered at homes by speed post.
The applicant will also be able to track the status of the license by entering the receipt number on a website.
Initially this service has been planned for Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Surat applicants. The service will then be extended to other areas of the state.
Government is not going to charge the dispatch cost initially.
About 9 lac applicants will get benefit of this mechanism.

Senior American Congress member calls on Narendra Modi

Where a cremation ground serves as a place for study

It is a strange sight indeed - groups of students busy cramming for impending examinations as bodies burn nearby on the funeral pyre.

Students from the eastern parts of the city seem to prefer the quiet of the Bhadreshwar cremation ground in Gujarat's principal city to their cramped homes.

"We have no other place to study in, so we come to this cremation ground. It is very quiet here and nobody disturbs us," Vishwanath Batunge, a law student said.

The cremation ground, spread over about half a kilometre along the banks of the river Sabarmati, has seen over the past three decades many people studying to become doctors, lawyers, engineers and accountants.

Ankur Garange, another law student, said his home was too small and the large joint family living there distracted him from studies. "The university library is far away, nearly at the other end of the city." Garange said.

As soon as the annual examination dates are declared, students from the Chhara Nagar and Kuber Nagar areas flock to the Bhadreshwar cremation ground. About 15 to 20 students can be found engrossed in their books while dead bodies are cremated nearby.

Yashodhar and Alkesh, both preparing for the Class 12 state board examinations, are regular visitors to the cremation ground. They said they did not waste any time at the ground, except some time off for eating.

"It is considered a taboo to eat in a cremation ground, but we cannot afford to walk six km back home for lunch. We bring our lunch boxes along," Yashodhar said.

Students say they are not distracted by people who come for the cremation. "They do not make much noise and leave as soon as the rites are over," said Alkesh.

Kantilal Tamayache, 50, a doctor, rues the fact that the neighbourhood still does not have a better alternative for students.

"We used to walk a long way to reach the ground as we didn't have bicycles then. We had represented to the authorities for a library or reading room. It is unfair that nothing has come up even after so many years," he said.

The long-standing demand by students that the administration open a public library or a reading room in their neighbourhood has remained unheeded.

"The municipal corporation does not have any space for building such a facility in the locality," said here's EX. Municipal Councillor Suryaben Patel.

"The people will have to raise funds for maintenance even if the space is provided," she added.

there is one small library runing by 'BHASHA RESEARCH CENTRE, BARODA'.with help of well known bangali author MAHASHWETA DEVY and Dr. GANESH DEVY. they are trying to help this community.
